Why go
Victoria Falls is one of the great sights of Africa, known to the Kololo as Mosi-oa-Tunya. You can walk its edge, fly over it, cruise above it at sunset or raft the gorge below.
It works on its own for a few days, or as the start or end of a safari in Chobe or Kruger.
What makes it distinct
The places that set it apart.
Few places offer so much within a few miles: the Falls themselves, the Zambezi and wildlife on the bank.
The Falls on foot
A guided walk along the edge.
Sundowner cruise
The upper Zambezi at dusk, looking for game.
By helicopter
Twelve minutes over the Falls and the gorge.
White water
Grade 5 rapids through the Batoka Gorge.
Livingstone Island
To the very edge, in the low water season.
Chobe day trip
Across the river into Botswana for elephants.
When to go
The best months, and who it suits.
The Falls are fullest from February to May. July to January is low water, when rafting and Livingstone Island are at their best.
Who it suits
Everyone, at least once. Adventure travellers will want longer.
