About Africa Keys

Nearly two decades of sharing the continent we call home.

Founded in Nairobi in 2008. Woman founded, woman led and boutique by choice.

Our story

Nairobi, 2008 to today.

Africa Keys was founded in Nairobi in 2008 to show Africa as the people who live here know it. Most of the people who have travelled with us since came through someone who had travelled with us before.

We have grown carefully, through trust, referral and relationships that go back years. We have also chosen to stay boutique. Growth matters to us, but not at the expense of our people, our service or the quality of the journey.

The founder’s journey

A business founded and led by a woman, from the first day.

This is part of where Africa Keys comes from, and of how it is run. It shapes the care we take, the people we employ and the relationships we keep.

Our people

The people who will look after you.

Tourism is seasonal. Our team is not. Many have been with Africa Keys for more than a decade, and average tenure is around fifteen years.

Guides our travellers mention by name.

Godfrey. Raphael. Steven. Wiseman. Samuel. Moses.

These names come up again and again in the letters we receive. Our guides are the most important part of your journey, and they are part of our team all year.

How we travel

Bespoke, in practical terms.

Six things we ask about before we suggest anything.

Interests

What you want to see, learn or simply feel.

Pace

Early starts and full days, or long mornings and fewer places.

Comfort

What you need in order to rest well.

Transport

By road with your guide, by light aircraft, or both.

Accommodation

Camps, lodges, conservancies and hotels we know personally.

Budget

It shapes the stay and the access. It never changes the care.

Our relationships

Partners we know, not inventory we sell.

The hotels, lodges, camps and guides we work with are relationships built over many years. We know who runs them, and they know our travellers will be looked after properly.

It is why a request made in Nairobi is honoured in the Mara.

What we believe

Five things we hold to.

Care

The details are ours to worry about, not yours.

Trust

Earned one journey at a time since 2008.

People

Our team is the business.

Authenticity

Africa as it is, shown by people who live here.

Respect

For the places and communities we travel through.

Come as our guests. Leave as our friends.

Tell us what you are imagining and we will start from there.
