Why go

Safari is a Swahili word, and Kenya is where many people first learn what it means. In one journey you can watch the Great Migration cross the Mara, see elephants walk beneath Kilimanjaro and end with your feet in the Indian Ocean.

It is also the country we know best. Nairobi has been home to Africa Keys since 2008, and our guides have spent years in these parks.

What makes it distinct

The places that set it apart.

Kenya is varied in a way few countries are. We rarely suggest all of it. Two or three places, at an unhurried pace, usually make the better journey.

Wildebeest crossing a river during the migration

Maasai Mara

The Great Migration, big cats and the widest skies in the country.
Mount Kilimanjaro above acacia trees and green plains

Amboseli

Large elephant herds with the snows of Kilimanjaro behind them.
Two giraffes standing side by side among acacia bushes

Samburu

The dry north and its Special Five, found nowhere else in Kenya.
Two rhinos grazing on open grass

Laikipia

Conservation country between Mount Kenya and the northern deserts.
Flamingos wading in a lake

The Rift Valley lakes

Nakuru and Elmentaita for rhino, flamingos and a slower pace.
Sunrise over the sea at Watamu, framed by a palm

The coast

Diani, Watamu and the Swahili history of Mombasa.

When to go

The best months, and who it suits.

June to October and January to February are dry and best for wildlife. The Migration is in the Mara from July to October. March to May and November are green, quieter and better value.

Who it suits

First safaris, families, honeymoons and travellers returning for the north.

The kind of stay

I am so glad you recommended Lake Elmentaita for the last two nights. It was so lovely. Steven, our guide and driver, made sure we saw everything we wanted to see. We are happy to recommend you to our friends and family.
